This page lists exactly what this site collects. We do not collect anything beyond what is listed below.
What we collect
| When | What is collected | Stored in |
|---|---|---|
| You submit the newsletter signup form | Your email address, plus internal tracking fields (which page/campaign you signed up from, and — if applicable — a topic segment) | Our subscriber database |
| You submit the newsletter signup form | Your email address is also registered with our email delivery provider, Beehiiv, so we can send you the newsletter (only when this integration is turned on) | Beehiiv (third-party email processor) |
| You view an article | Which page/campaign referred you, a one-way SHA-256 hash of your IP address (see below — never the IP itself), your browser's user-agent string, the referring page, and a country code | Our article-views database |
| You click a link to a partner offer | A one-way SHA-256 hash of your IP address (never the IP itself), your browser's user-agent string, the referring page, and a country code | Our click-tracking database |
We never store your raw IP address
When we record a page view or a link click, your IP address is run through a one-way SHA-256 hash before it is written to our database. We do not store, and cannot recover, the original IP address from that hash. It is used only in aggregate, to estimate country of origin and to detect abnormal traffic (e.g. bot clicks on partner links).
How this data is used
Newsletter signups are used to send you the content you signed up for and, where relevant, related offers marked "PR." View and click records are used in aggregate to understand which articles are useful and which partner links get used — not to build an individual profile that we share or sell.
Third parties
The only third-party processor we use is Beehiiv, for newsletter delivery, and only when the newsletter-provider integration is turned on. We do not sell any data collected on this site.
Opting out / unsubscribing
